Celebrating Humane Education in Chicago

On May 14th, the British Consulate General in Chicago generously opened up his private residence to HEART for an elegant reception and fundraiser. HEART staff and supporters couldn’t have asked for a higher endorsement of the work being done than when British Deputy Consul General, Ramin Navai, told the guests that they were pleased to host the event because HEART’s work on environmental protection and human rights aligns with the British government’s priorities. Showing compassion for others and helping to protect the planet, we can all agree, is something worth teaching our youth, here at home and abroad.
Along with the incredibly warm welcome, guests were treated to a truly breathtaking view of Chicago’s skyline from the plush Gold Coast residence. No matter how fancy the venue and how distinguished the guests, we think most will agree that one of the main highlights of the evening was hearing from D’Asia and Donald Perry, two siblings in the HEART program at Stockton Elementary. Some of the guests fought back tears as D’Asia and Donald talked about the many ways the HEART program changed their lives and the lives of their classmates.  D’Asia told the crowded room that she and her classmates have grown closer together over the past three years as a result of the HEART program. Donald mentioned that the program really touched his heart and made him a more compassionate person.  He also said he can’t wait to once again participate in HEART’s Humane Heroes Summer Camp.
In addition to learning more about HEART’s mission and having a wonderful time socializing, we are thrilled to share with you that HEART supporters generously contributed $14,000, making it possible for HEART to reach even more students with our life-changing humane education programs.
We would like to once again thank the British Consulate for their gracious hospitality and all of the guests for their support of HEART Chicago’s work. Together we will make Chicago a more humane city.
